What do you say when you talk to yourself?

By Carlos Marin on September 4, 2009

seimagenewf7There was a time in our culture, not too long ago, when admitting that you had conversations with yourself would have had the people around you thinking about sticking you in a mental ward.  We’ve come a long way since then, but how much do we really understand this process of Self-Talk in our lives?  Many of us have gotten a good laugh at the old Saturday Night Live character Stuart Smalley and his positive affirmations, “I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!” But how many of us truly understand the effect that our subconscious self-talk has in every area of our life, and what methods we can use to effectively change it in order to stop self-sabotaging ourselves and be empowered to achieve our desires?

In the last 25 years, I have had the opportunity to work with literally tens of thousands of people directly, and several million through my business, appearances, and speaking opportunities.  I have seen firsthand how the destructive nature of negative self talk can take a talented, bright human being full of potential and leave them in despair and depression, drowning in limiting beliefs.  Fortunately, I have studied and perfected ways to identify, correct, and overcome these limiting beliefs, not only for myself in my own life, but to empower countless others to do the same.  As one variation on the adage goes, “As we think, so we become”.  There is a powerful truth to this don’t you think (no pun intended)?  Missing this point is one of the greatest hurdles to achieving true success and happiness in our lives.

So, when you speak to yourself, what do you say?  This is a difficult question for many of us to answer.  The difficulty arises out of the fact that most people do not direct their thoughts at all.  Too often our minds run like old tape recorders, or badly programmed computers, just spitting out information that is out of date, created by someone else, and certainly not in alignment with where we would like to be in our lives.  When you listen to those messages in your head, who is it that is speaking?  If you trace those thoughts back, thoughts of unworthiness, laziness, foolishness, stupidity, not being good enough, or having to always be the best no matter what, or the smartest, or the best looking, or the funniest, where do they come from?  What you’ll realize is that these thoughts, this inner talk, comes from those we have had around us in the past; Parents, Teachers, Coaches, Family, Friends, Peers, etc…  While these statements were usually intended to be well meaning and protect us, they were nevertheless imbued with the limitations and beliefs of those who conditioned us with them. Think about it, one sentence thoughtlessly spoken twenty years ago can plant a mental tree that grows into a massive issue that we seemingly cannot overcome, holds us captive and powerless and actually ends up shaping our Identity and Values!mind

In my own journey of personal development, I have discovered, designed, and utilized many tools and resources (and purposely placed them at my command) to Consciously Create the What, How, and even the Why of my thought processes and Internal Dialogue.  Using tools like Directed Imagination, NLP, and EFT, as well consciously designing and creating a laser focus on my Beliefs, Values, Purpose, and Identity, I have been able to Create the life I choose to have, and live the life I choose to lead.  When YOU get clear on where YOU desire to be in YOUR Financial, Physical, Emotional, and Relational states, YOU become the Architect of YOUR Destiny.  Whether you want to be a Millionaire, a great Artist, a professional Athlete, an incredible life changing Teacher, or the best Mom or Dad your children could possibly have, doing just these few things, and committing to taking action with them daily in your life, you will Achieve them!

You see, when I committed to my passion and mission in life, which is to help people to see the unlimited inner greatness that’s inside all of us and to support others in using it to create the life of their dreams, it became part of who I am.  Using the tools I have learned, and am now sharing and teaching to others to use in their own lives, it has become Anchored in my Identity.  You could no more separate that from who I am, than the love I have for family and friends.  This is the power of developing the Mastery Mindset, no matter what it is in your life that you choose to master.  I think a great place to start is with those little voices we have inside our heads.  Once you are the Master of your thoughts, YOU become the Master of YOUR Destiny.

So what do you say to yourself continually?  Take a few minutes and really think about the consistent conversations that are going on in your mind. Identify at least 3 or 4 recurring thoughts and try to work it back to the source, who is the person who started saying these things to you? Trace it back to its root and then ask yourself “Is this really true? Is this really serving me today? Does it empower me to achieve my goals in life?” And if not, “Why should I keep this as a part of who I am?” And as you decide to change this self-talk replace it with the positive opposite of the thought, belief or cliché.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR… think about what is some of the self-talk going through your head and post some comments on this page so I can help you through this and make positive immediate change in your life.  I’ll answer everyone back who posts some examples of their self-talk and I’ll do a FREE Teleseminar to show you how you can change your self-talk to have it be in service to YOU, instead of you being a slave to it.

Think about it NOW and POST YOUR COMMENTS and we’ll be talking soon!

What’s Your Story

By Carlos Marin on August 27, 2009

babycomputer In getting to where each one of us is today in our lives we all have had people do and say things, events occur and things happen that have shaped who we are today. The big problem is that those things began occurring prior to us being in a position to make our own choices. Between the ages of 0 (or I like to say 0 minus 9 months) and 7 years old we were virtual sponges absorbing information and experiences without any filters. It’s like having a computer in totally automatic open download mode with no anti-virus software!

I’m not into laying blame on anyone and in fact one of my fundamental beliefs is that everyone does the best they can at every moment in life according to their level of awareness. We all try to give the best to our children however you can’t give what you don’t have and you don’t know what you don’t know.

So, where your parents were during that stage of your life and what was going on in their lives, the times, their careers, the economic and political situation in the country, their successes, joys, frustrations, fears, etc. all greatly influenced the beginning of your story and therefore who you are today.  Everything that happened later on in your life was built upon and influenced by that initial foundation which is still with you to a very large degree today.

You see, the beginning of that story gave you a certain perspective, a way to look at things, the world, life in general.  To use a PInkmetaphor, it gave you colored glasses.  Some of us got the rosy glasses, others green, others blue and some even gray or brown. Some of us even got weird glasses with one rosy lens and one blue lens!  Those glasses – that view of life has colored what has transpired since then unless… we have consciously chosen later in life to take off the old glasses and get a new pair of our own choosing.

Without conscious introspection of who and what and where we are in life and consciously choosing if that is who we really want to be and really want to do, we keep wearing the same glasses, living the same old story we’ve been living up to now. And the sad part is that we didn’t choose it consciously. It all sort of happened and now most of us haven’t even realized that we can change it if we want to. We think we are victims to our past, to our story (which is all our past really is) and don’t realize that we can change our story if we want to.

My passion and mission in life is to help people to see the unlimited inner greatness that’s inside all of us and then tap into it and use it to create the life of their dreams. The past does not equal the future if you take full responsibility for your life.

People say you can’t change the past but they are wrong because the past is really an illusion, it’s only a memory and memories can be erased and healed, even rewritten to serve you instead of limit you. After all our minds function more like a computer than you yet imagine we just need to learn how to operate the hardware and rewrite the software!

By the way your story has not been fully written yet… you are still here, right? What will the rest of the story be and who will write it, you or someone else? More on that in my next post next week but for now…

So what has your story been up to now?  I’d really like to know!  Has it been a…

Saving Network Marketing

By Carlos Marin on June 3, 2009

URGENT: I need YOUR input to help to create positive change that blesses the lives of millions of people in this industry!

I’ve been involved in some way or another in the Network Marketing industry for almost 25 years. Even in the 3 years I was retired from it, I thought about it almost every day. You see I have this sort of love – hate relationship with this industry.

I love it because at its best, it gives regular people the opportunity to start a business for very little up front investment and create financial freedom for themselves and their families.

I hate it because over the years, some confused marketers and corporate executives that are envious of other companies’ successes have created a boom and bust scenario pulling people from one company to another (usually the next latest-greatest deal) over and over again for their own financial benefit. Interestingly, what they do to others eventually gets done to them.

But the big question in my mind is; “how do we fix this problem so that it’s a win-win situation for all?” You see, at the end of the day the new guy or gal who is trying to learn the industry doesn’t make money or benefit at all in this feeding frenzy of company hopping. They never have the time to get established with one company and are constantly being fed hype that leads them to believe that success is dependent on something that is outside of themselves.

It’s only the people at the top of the line of sponsorship, who are the ones moving people from one company to another, that make a killing by putting them into a new compensation program and earning commissions all over again on the same people.

And it’s the new company (with supposedly the “right timing”, “revolutionary product,” “incredible compensation plan” (Is there any other kind? LOL)) who gets a windfall in new revenues from the sign up fees and initial product purchases of all those new people signing up “en masse” in their deal.

While competition exists in the traditional business world, you don’t see companies losing half of their sales force to a new company entering the marketplace. And the sad part is it’s not good for the distributors of most companies in Network Marketing for this scenario to happen either.

When I started in Network Marketing, I got involved in Amway, which was a 23 year old company doing $1 Billion in annual revenues at the time. I didn’t get rich overnight. I had a lot to learn and a lot of limiting beliefs and attitudes to overcome in order to succeed.

But by becoming a student of the Universal Principles of Success, which by the way were wisely promoted by the Upline in my organization in the form of books, audios and seminars, I did become a millionaire by the age of 31 (not overnight but 6 ½ years).

Furthermore, in spite of my slow start I did wind up making millions of dollars in the 17 years I was with them and helped others make millions too. By the time I sold my business in 1998, the company was generating $7.4 Billion in annual sales and was a 40-year-old company (which if you do the math it grew by 740% in 17 years or an average of 43.5% per year… not bad for a mature company that supposedly everyone had already heard of. No timing, no revolutionary compensation plan, just products that people use on a regular basis, a great culture and a great principle-based system! ).

The interesting point is that we didn’t build that business by cross-recruiting leaders from other companies. We built the business quite organically with new people entering the industry or people who had tried Networking before but had not achieved any great measure of success with other companies.

I don’t recall any instances where my organization or any other organizations brought over groups “en masse” from other companies.

What I’m saying is that success in this industry comes from having an intense desire to succeed, become financially free (or even wealthy) and learning the success principles that will make you rich in anything you do (including identifying and eliminating your root limiting beliefs). Today I teach these unstoppable principles to people who desire to become millionaires in Network Marketing (in any company)!

Most of the people you see jumping from company to company will eventually jump themselves right out of this industry and then will say it doesn’t work… even while others are clearly getting rich.

Rags To Riches – The Carlos Marin Story

By Carlos Marin on May 25, 2009

rightIn January of 1961 my parents, my sisters and I left Cuba with just the clothes we were wearing. The Castro communist government seized all their property and money and they lost everything.

My father had managed to smuggle a $1,000 bill in the heel of one of his shoes and we began a new life first in Spain and a year later in Charleston, W.Va.

My parents had to work 2 jobs each just to make ends meet so an American babysitter took care of my 3 sisters and I for 4 years until we moved to Miami. By the time we got to Florida my sisters and I barely spoke Spanish. We had become little Americans. img_0002carlosmanuel

My parents worked very hard and we made many sacrifices in order to make ends meet. I learned to go without many of the things I wanted but did not like it at all.

As soon as I was able to push a lawnmower I started cutting lawns in the neighborhood and washed cars in order to get the things I wanted like a 10 speed bike. I always liked the good things in life and had an intense desire to succeed.

I vowed that I would become a millionaire like my grandfather who had migrated from Spain to Cuba with only the clothes on his back. He always told me that if I wanted to be successful find a successful person who had what I wanted to mentor me.
